Why Rebuild?
Tigray’s infrastructures have all but collapsed because of the war, and the intentional, calculated destruction of its public and private facilities and services. Tigrayans have lost their means of livelihood, from personal household assets, farming tools and small businesses to employment opportunities in factories.
The brutal extent of attacks on urban and rural health facilities left Tigray with 70% health facilities looted, and more than 30% completely damaged, leaving only 13% functional enough to see patients. Approximately 80% of farming households have been affected by looting, burning, and/or destruction of crops and farm implements; they have lost their livestock to looting and displacement; and agricultural infrastructure including markets and veterinary clinics were destroyed.
Tigray’s children and youth have been denied their right to education for three years. The physical damage to school is a devastation of its own, but enrollment in primary schools has seen a decline from 91% to a staggering 21% due to student and teacher deaths in the region.

How to Rebuild?
BBT intends to implement its Rebuild projects in five areas of focus:
-
Restoring Livelihoods – BBT will prioritize the poorest for possible rebuilding of their productive assets with an eye towards the adoption of latest developmental advancements.
-
Healthcare – BBT will focus on innovative solutions to deliver healthcare to Tigrayans through basic healthcare providing facilities such as health care extensions and clinics, but also including hospitals.
-
Agriculture – BBT seeks to implement innovative and transformative agricultural initiatives with the express goal of helping Tigray leapfrog from subsistence farming to mechanized agriculture leveraging the latest developmental advancements.
-
Education – BBT will focus on implementing school feeding projects, as hunger has a significant impact on brain development; hungry children find it difficult to concentrate on education and learning; and children (especially girls) are kept out of school to help support their families during hardship.
-
Technology & Entrepreneurship – Technology & Entrepreneurship will need to be at the center of Tigray’s future economic development. BBT will develop programs that combine technology and Tigrayans’ industrious drive, to ensure Tigray’s self-sufficiency.
